Fungi, Leith Hill

This fungi was growing on a felled tree, in the relative shade of another tree stump. The eye catching arrangement of the fungi caps and the delicate gills made an ideal macro subject.

London Eye, Southbank

Taken mid morning in August on a clear sunny day. This image has had very little treatment in PhotoShop, just a simple levels adjustment, colour balance and a little sharpening. The juxtaposition of the moon and the eye-pods on such a sunny day makes for quite a striking image.

Hen Cloud, High Peak, Peak District National Park.

Taken from just below the Roaches on an early December afternoon, this picture is a combination of two exposures. Each exposure was taken on a digital, tripod mounted, camera to ensure an exact register between the two shots. One exposure was taken for the foreground and the other for the sky.

The two shots were then merged using Adobe PhotoShop CS to produce the result you see opposite.

Howden Dam, Peak District National Park.

This shot was taken fairly early in the morning in early December. The reservoir in front of the dam is so still that it acts like a sheet of glass and gives the lovely reflection that you see here. In situations like this it is worth waiting for the right light; I waited about ten minutes for this shot, before a cloud moved out of the path of the sun and left the dam in glorious warm sunlight.

Sun Over The English Channel from Birling Gap.

Another composite image. Two identically composed shots, one exposed for the sky and sun and the other exposed for the foreground. The two shots were then merged in Adobe PhotoShop CS and the relevant parts from each exposure blended together to give one overall shot where everything is within acceptable exposure limits.

Sunset over Ranmore, Dorking.

This shot was taken on a March evening, shortly before sunset. No special treatment was given to this image, and exposure was set on the grey of the cloud.

Fungi and Bluebells, Ranmore

The log with the fungi growing on it in the foreground provides excellent interest to draw your eye deeper into the picture. This shot was taken fairly late in the afternoon on a bright but overcast day, so the light coming through the trees is soft and even.

Boat on Winch at Birling Gap, East Sussex.

This boat was secured to a winch on the side of a low cliff at Birling Gap on the East Sussex coast. Birling Gap is a low point along the Seven Sisters cliff range, just around the corner from Beachy Head.

The shot was composed at the time of shooting and no cropping has taken place here. To make the colours appear rich a polariser was used on a 17-40mm zoom lens.

Stormy Beach at Charmouth in Dorset.

This rather stormy looking beach is Charmouth in Dorset. The area is noted for its 'Jurasic Heritage', and strewn along the coastline after the high tide you'll find lots of interesting fossils.

This particular shot is quite a heavy crop, producing the letterbox format you see here. There was also a little 'cheating' on this one too; the man near the centre of the shot originally had a luminous yellow hat. A little time spent in Adobe PhotoShop CS and this was changed to a much more eye-pleasing blue!
